Brian O’Driscoll, the world’s most-capped player, paid a surprise visit to Petchey Academy on Tuesday, December 16, to coincide with Hackney Bulls first mid-week training session.
Ireland’s record try-scorer was joined fellow international players Kerrie Ann Craddock and Sonia Green as well as Bulls coaches to provide a training session for 80 children from the club and various schools throughout the borough.
Players also got the chance to have their photo taken with the Webb Ellis Cup as part of the event, which was supported by World Cup 2015 sponsor Coca-Cola.
“East London is not an area of the country that is synonymous with rugby,” O’Driscoll said. “But Rugby World Cup 2015 is going to bring a whole new audience to our game and I’m excited to be to be working with Coca-Cola to show fans new and old just how enjoyable and exciting the sport can be.”
The Tuesday evening sessions are open to girls and boys aged 12-17 and will start again at Petchey Academy on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Sessions will run from 5pm until 7pm and will offer a mix of training on 3G pitch and analysis in the classroom.
